Land Recognition Statement
When asked to do Land Recognition statements at the start of weddings in Ontario, here is what I say as the Officiant:
"Land Recognition: Before we begin, we wish to acknowledge that we stand on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the New Credit, and the traditional lands of the Huron-Wendat and the Six Nations of the Grand River. Today, as it has been for thousands of years, this land is the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to have this ceremony here today."
