FAQ - The Marrying Lady

The big question I get asked all the time, How Did You Become The Marrying Lady?? Listen to one of the podcasts I was on when I explained the whole story here! And while you listen, here are some of the other questions I get asked, which might help you get to know who I am and what I can offer you.

1. Are you legally licensed to officiate weddings in Ontario?

Yes! I have been performing weddings for 20 years, and I have been legally licensed through C.I.M.M. and under the Ontario Marriage Act since 2008. You can check all legal wedding officiants on this site (search for my last name, Credgeur).

2. Can The Marrying Lady officiate same-sex, interfaith, or non-religious weddings?

Absolutely! I joyfully celebrate all couples — same-sex, multicultural, interfaith, and everything in between. Every love story is unique, and your ceremony should be too. My religious - non religious - ceremonies are based on connection, love, and respect.

3. Can The Marrying Lady perform weddings anywhere in Ontario?

Yes! I officiate weddings across Ontario, from Toronto and the GTA to cottage country, Niagara, and beyond. Whether it’s a backyard, a ballroom, or a boat. However, weddings outside of Toronto need to be booked well in advance and include travel costs.

4. Why should we choose The Marrying Lady rather than getting married at Toronto City Hall?

City Hall ceremonies are formal, standard, and cost more. The Marrying Lady has a flexible schedule (anytime-anywhere), provides a more relaxed experience at a lower price. AND, as someone who loves this vocation and takes it very seriously, I stay on top of the province’s processing changes. For instance, if you are told that you have to wait 6-8 weeks before ordering your marriage certificate… good news, the internet has been invented. You can order it online the day of your wedding.

5. What added value does The Marrying Lady offer compared to others?

Experience! I have been conducting ceremonies in this very multicultural city for 20 years. There is hardly a ritual that I haven't encountered from any part of the world. I know all of the venues extremely well, I know the other wedding vendors (photographers, Djs, Planners, etc), but more importantly, I've witnesses the best and worst at weddings, and I can coach with the best decisions.

6. You were recommended by another vendor, do you take kickbacks for being on their list?

Nope! If your venue or another vendor recommended me, they are trusting that I can suit your style and budget to do a good job for you. I've never paid or been paid to be on a list.

7. How long does a typical wedding ceremony last?

Most ceremonies last 20–25 minutes, depending on your readings, vows, and rituals.
Elopements or “paperwork-only” ceremonies can be as quick as 5 minutes — but still feel warm and meaningful.

8. Does The Marrying Lady perform elopements or micro weddings?

Yes! I specialize in intimate, meaningful ceremonies for couples who want something small but special. Vows and ring exchange are optional. You can have it at home, in a park, or anywhere you love. I can also provide hired witnesses.

9. Can we include friends or family in the ceremony?

Definitely. You can invite a loved one to do a reading, light a candle, or even say a few words. I’ll help make sure it flows beautifully. Or, you can do the legal paperwork with me prior and have a friend officiate the wedding on the big day.

10. Do you perform destination weddings outside of Ontario?

Absolutely. Whether it’s in the mountains of Banff, a Carribean Resort, or chateau in France — The Marrying Lady is happy to make your customized wedding ceremony come to life! Legally, the marriage licence must be signed in Ontario prior to leaving the province.

11. Do you handle all the legal paperwork?

Yes. After the ceremony, I file your marriage licence with the province so your marriage is legally registered. I’ll also explain how to order your official certificate afterward.

12. When should we book you as our officiant?

For popular dates (especially spring and fall) and times (5pm on a Friday or Saturday), I recommend booking 7–12 months in advance. If your wedding is soon — don’t worry! Last-minute ceremonies are welcome too.

13. How do we book The Marrying Lady for our wedding?

It’s easy! Just visit the contact page, choose your ceremony type, and fill out the quick form. You’ll get a friendly reply (usually within 24 hours) to confirm availability and next steps.

14. What happens if we book The Marrying Lady, but you get sick?

My Ceremony Sisters and Marrying Men as my back up! Although this has only occurred twice in the last 20 years (sniffles during Covid), I fully trust this network of fabulous, legally qualified, and experienced colleagues to do the best job.

15. Why should I choose The Marrying Lady over other officiants in Ontario?

Honestly, you shouldn't. There are a lot of great Wedding Officiants in Ontario, and you should work with the one that vibes best with you and what you are looking for.
