How to get married in Ontario - Step Two

First, fill out an application for a marriage licence, go to City Hall between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday with the application and your ID and you will immediately get the licence to bring to your Officiant (application and details here). The licence is completed by me, your witnesses and you. Within 48 hours, I mail it and the the marriage license is submitted to the Office of the Registrar General for validation.

  • To get a marriage license, you and your partner must appear together (or only one of you with the application and both of your IDs) at any town hall or civic center in Ontario.

  • You must bring two forms of ID.

  • A list of municipal offices can be found online.

  • You will need to pay a marriage license fee that ranges depending on where you buy it from $110 to $165. Confirm the amount to be paid with the municipal office that you intend to visit.

  • Check the licence out before you leave for accuracy.

  • Bring the brown envelope you receive with all the documents to me and I will take care of the rest and marry you!
