Blended Family Ceremonies involving Small Children
When one or both of you have school-aged children, your wedding ceremony may mark a significant moment for them to begin to trust the commitment and stability in their lives from the step-parent. Involving those little people in the wedding ceremony may depend on their comfort levels, but rarely are they too shy to recieve a gift as a token of your commitment to them.
Commitment to the Children
Today is not only about Erin and Darcy. A larger family is united as their lives will always be shared with the children. To honour this, Erin would like to extend her love and commitment to the children.
Erin (repeat after me):
today I promise
to always be fair and honest,
to be available for you as I am for your dad.
I will not attempt to replace anyone,
but to make a place in your hearts that is for you alone.
I will be a parent to guide you and friend to be by your side,
I promise to cherish you with all that I am.
On this day when I marry your father,
I also commit to you and I promise to love and support you as my own.
Please accept this gift as a token of my promise to you.
(someone hands The Marrying Lady a tissue… kidding… but seriously!)
